What do you mean, “sell”? :<
My ferrets love the camera :) [as seen on my blog]. The cutie above is called Kimi (now in ferret heaven).

An update on the rescue ferret, the one in my previous post: http://ferretorium.tumblr.com/post/18833632172/oh-great
It was 6 pm on the 6th of March, today, and I got a text from B, my friend who was going to help her friend rescue the ferret. She told me that she was meeting her friend, ferret in tow, in a nearby town and was heading straight to our workplace (Petco) after that. As soon as I got her text I tore out of my house and took off for Petco. When I got there I met B at her little 4x4, which she popped open to reveal a small metal wire cage and a sable ferret pacing it. The cage was maybe 2-3 feet high and a foot deep. Completely inadequate for a ferret, or any animal, really. It was rusty and awful.
Apparently, this is how it went down.
A got the ferret from the awful neighbors who were going to “use it as target practice” if they didn’t get rid of it within a day or two… but not after the awful woman wanted $20 for the ferret. B was so frustrated, she said to just give the bitch the money so we could get the ferret away from her ASAP. A got the fuzzy and met with B who then rushed to Petco where I did a makeshift physical checkup on him.The first thing I noticed was that he was skin. and. bones. He had his winter coat, which was good, but you could feel all his little ribs and hip bones. He had epic dander (which doesn’t happen on a healthy ferret). Other than that, he just looked kind of haggard.
We brought him into the grooming salon and I cleaned his ears. As you can see in the pictures, he had massive amounts of earwax buildup. It took four q-tips and a cotton swab for each ear to get them halfway clean, after that I decided to give him some Ferretone for being such a good sport. I clipped his nails (or rather, talons) after that and he happily ignored me while lapping up some ‘tone. What a good boy.
My manager set up a big 40-gal tank in the back for him to live in while in quarantine for 72 hours. He immediately perked up and started digging and checking out his new digs. :) Better food (yes, Marshall’s is better than that fruity garbage), a nice warm place to sleep. He’s already living in paradise compared to the wire cage on a porch he used to live in.
As far as his previous owners go, I’m not in any position to report them for anything. I’m not directly involved. I would like to get their address, though, so I can make an anonymous call to get some ASPCA officers to their “house” (they live in a trash heap trailer in the middle of nowhere). That is for another day, though. And I have lots of pretty photographic evidence of this ferret’s neglect if the need arises…
Anyway, thanks for the support you guys gave. I think it really helped this little guy out. Speaking of which, he still needs a name! I kind of like Rocky. Any suggestions?
This is a complete joke, honestly I applaud you guys for not taking any action at this moment in time. Personally I would have beat the living shit out of the owner, stuck their head in the cage, gave it a swift kick so it was nice and snug and left. People, if you know of ANY ferrets in a shitty condition or even if you yourself own one. Don’t let it suffer, sell it or give it away to someone who will love and care for it. NEVER IN YOUR FUCKING LIFE put a ferret or any animal for that matter in a wire (aside from a bird). Just leads to bumblefoot and a number of problems. Honestly, people that do this have my utmost hatred for them, and would be equally expressed. Take care of your animals and do you part to ensure they are comfortable and happy. Don’t be a jackass, because if I EVER met someone that was doing this, they wouldn’t be happy with their doctor bills. <3 :D
